25 Abandoned Bodies At Sanglah Hospital Are Cremated, There Are Bodies Stored Since 2019

DENPASAR - Sanglah Central General Hospital (RSUP) Sanglah, Denpasar, Bali, carried out the cremation of 25 abandoned bodies whose identities were not known, including bodies that no family had taken.

"Cremation of corpses in forensics that are abandoned, whose identities are not known and whose families do not take the bodies from the forensics department," said POU Director of Sanglah Hospital Ni Luh Dharma Kerti Nathi at Sanglah Hospital, Denpasar, Bali, Thursday, September 23.

Of the 25 bodies, according to Kerti Nathi, there is the longest stored in forensics, namely 2019.

Meanwhile, the cost for the cremation of dozens of bodies is quite expensive. The costs are borne by the Sanglah Hospital and the Bali Social Service.

"So, because from 2019 of course the cost for the burial of the corpse. In fact, the patient has been treated at the Sanglah hospital until now around IDR 2.6 billion. That's quite a lot if you calculate the cost of care and burial of the body so far, " she said.

"This can be a CSR for Sanglah Hospital every year. Because, of course, the main director of Sanglah Hospital must make a decision on the release of these abandoned bodies," she explained.

The number of cremations this year is not like the previous year which could reach 30 bodies. Because there are communities or people who help handle bodies that are not known or have not been taken by their families.

"Recently, it turns out that more and more of the community itself has contributed to this procession. In particular, the bodies that have been identified as Muslim, the MUI actually took the initiative to carry out a funeral procession of their bodies," she explained.

In the future, it is hoped that more communities will be able to assist in dealing with abandoned bodies.

"So, they can be identified according to their religion, a procession or final respect can be carried out according to the religion they profess," said Natih.
