Jusuf Kalla Reveals Things That Can Make PMI Officers Happy

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) M Jusuf Kalla said PMI must be at the forefront of any disaster management efforts. Starting from natural disasters and non-natural disasters.

"In the future, of course, the community will still need assistance, so PMI must be at the forefront, then provide assistance to those in need," said Jusuf Kalla at the PMI National Working Conference which was followed online from Jakarta, Saturday, September 18.

Kalla said, PMI's task has not been declared successful if humanitarian issues have not been handled properly. The parameter of success in the disaster management efforts carried out by PMI, he said, was the smile of the community's happiness to all volunteers.

"So our happiness, the disaster was handled well," said the man who twice served as vice president.

Jusuf Kalla asked all PMI members and volunteers to uphold the basic principles of PMI, which include humanity, equality, neutrality, volunteerism, independence, unity, and universality.

In addition, he stated that PMI services are not only related to blood donation, but also include handling various impacts of disasters, including epidemic prevention.

"What we are doing is to fulfill PMI's main principles, starting with humanity. PMI's task is always to be part of the nation and state wherever there are if there are humanitarian problems," he said.
