Reveals Syndicate Of Illegal Migrant Workers To Malaysia, Riau Islands Police Successfully Saved 7 Workers

KEPRI - The Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Riau Islands Police managed to arrest five members of a syndicate of illegal Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) and rescued seven Indonesian migrant workers who were about to go to Malaysia.

The Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation of the Riau Islands Police AKBP Donny Siswoyo stated that seven victims from Cianjur, Purwakarta, Tegal and Indramayu were rescued while the suspects were still preparing for their departure to Malaysia from Tanjunguban, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands.

"The modus operandi of the suspect is to recruit, hold, manage and depart PMI (Indonesian migrant workers) abroad without official documents through illegal ports with the lure of getting a large salary," Donny said in Batam, Antara, Wednesday, September 15.

To the victim, five suspects with the initials A, AM, M, AM, and S promised to work as household assistants to oil palm plantations. Minimum income of IDR 5 million per month and maximum of IDR 7 million per month.

Victims who are tempted to work in Malaysia without knowing the official departure procedures to be able to work as PMI.

To the police, the suspect admitted that he had illegally dispatched Indonesian workers to Malaysia four times

"The evidence that was successfully secured was four mobile phones, one victim's boarding pass bundle, two 200 PK outboard engine boats and one white car," he said.

The suspect is charged with an alleged criminal act of placing Indonesian migrant workers abroad without fulfilling the requirements as referred to in the formulation of Article 81 and Article 83 of Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Jo. Article 55 of the Criminal Code with a maximum threat of 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of Rp. 15 billion.
