JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government added one indicator of decreasing the level of PPKM implementation in Java and Bali, namely vaccination coverage.

Luhut said that the requirements for achieving vaccination in each region to be able to reduce the level of PPKM assessment in each region were carried out to boost vaccination.

"As one of the transition processes to live with COVID-19, it has been decided to include indicators of vaccination coverage in evaluating the reduction in PPKM levels from level 3 to level 2, and level 2 to level 1," Luhut said in a virtual conference, Monday, 13 September.

Luhut explained that dose 1 vaccination coverage must reach 50 percent and elderly vaccination coverage must reach 40 percent, as an additional requirement to be able to go down from level 3 to level 2.

The dose 1 vaccination coverage must reach 70 percent and the elderly vaccination coverage must reach 60 percent as an additional requirement to be able to go down from level 2 to level 1.

"For cities that are currently at level 2, they will be given 2 weeks to be able to pursue the target in point a above. If it cannot be achieved, the status will be raised to level 3," said Luhut.

Luhut said that achieving the vaccination coverage target mentioned above is very important considering that vaccines have been proven to protect us from serious illness that requires hospital treatment or death, especially for the elderly.

"Therefore, the high vaccination target as mentioned above is one of the main keys in the phase of living with COVID-19," he explained.

Currently, the COVID-19 situation in Java and Bali, continued Luhut, shows an improvement that is faster than the government's forecast.

Unfortunately, the speed of vaccination and implementation of protective care and health protocols is still lagging behind. The decline in PPKM levels in various cities caused a lot of euphoria from the community which was not accompanied by the implementation of health protocols and the use of protective care.

"This is quite dangerous because it can invite the next wave of COVID-19," he said.

For information, the government decided to extend the PPKM in Java and Bali from September 14 to 20, 2021. In the extension of the PPKM for the next week, many regions experienced a decrease in the level of assessment.
