Women Arrested By Police In Manokwari For Embezzlement Of 11 Rental Cars

MANOKWARI - The Manokwari Police Criminal Investigation Unit, within the ranks of the West Papua Regional Police, detained a housewife (IRT) with the initials EY on suspicion of fraud and embezzlement of 11 rental cars.

Manokwari Police Chief, Grand Commissioner Adjutant Dadang Kurniawan Winjaya said that EY was officially named a suspect in fraud and embezzlement of 11 rental cars of various brands.

"The suspect EY has been detained at the Manokwari Police Women's Detention Center for further processing," said the Manokwari Police Chief, quoted by Antara, Monday, September 13.

The police chief said that the fraud was carried out by the suspect EY herself by visiting the rental car business in Manokwari city at different times, then selling the rental car on social media at a price of tens of millions.

"After being sold, she rented another car. And the proceeds from the sale were used to extend the cost of the previous car rental in a row until 11 rental cars were sold," said the Police Chief.

The police chief admitted that the fraud and embezzlement of the car was carried out by the suspect EY from February to July 2021.

"EY has only been in action for about five months, from February to July. All the victims are rental car owners in Manokwari," said the Police Chief.

Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Manokwari Police, Insp. Arifal Utama, said that 11 rental cars stolen by suspect EY were sold to Teluk Wondama and Biak Numfor districts, Papua.

In addition to selling rental cars at a price of Rp35 million each, the suspect in his action also lured the victim of fraud (the buyer) by including vehicle documents, so that the buyer became convinced to make a transaction.

"The results of the fraud and embezzlement of 11 rental cars were spread out, including 8 units in Biak Numfor district, 2 units in Manokwari and 1 unit in Teluk Wondama district, for this action the victims suffered losses of more than Rp1.3 billion," said Arifal.

The Criminal Investigation Unit also said that 11 units of car evidence had been completely secured to the Manokwari Police.

"The suspect EY is suspected of Article 372 in conjunction with Article 378 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of 4 years in prison," said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit.
