Two Foreigners Participate In Reporting Tangerang Prison Fire, Minister Of Law And Human Rights: I Convey Deep Condolences

JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly, revealed that two foreign nationals were also victims of the fire at the Class I prison in Tangerang, Banten. Both are inmates with South African and Portuguese passports.

"The data I have obtained shows that 41 people died as a result of this fire. One of the victims who died was a resident in a terrorism case, one was a criminal act of murder, while the other was drugs. Two of the victims died were foreign nationals from South Africa and Portugal", Yasonna said in a written statement, Wednesday, September 8.

For this incident, Yasonna then instructed his staff to focus on evacuating and recovering the inmates in the prison. In addition, he also expressed his deep condolences for the deaths of 41 people in the fire incident that occurred this morning.

"I convey my deepest condolences for the victims in this fire", said the PDI-P politician.

"I have instructed the ranks to immediately evacuate and focus on providing the best treatment to recover the injured. This is a tragedy that is concerning for all of us", added Yasonna.

Furthermore, he said his party would cooperate with related parties to find the cause of the fire. In addition, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights will try to find the right formulation to prevent fatal things from happening if there is a fire in the prison.

"Of course we will work with all relevant parties to investigate the causes of the fire and of course formulate prevention strategies so that a serious disaster like this does not happen again", said Yasonna.

Previously, a fire accident occurred at the Class I prison in Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday, September 8 in the morning. Initially, the incident occurred due to an electrical short circuit and the fire raged for approximately two hours.

This fire resulted in 41 inmates died and some were injured. The injured victim has now been taken to the Tangerang Regional Hospital for treatment and treatment.
