Jambi Police Chief Kombes Eko Wahyudi accompanied by Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Kompol Handres said the perpetrator, named Joni Alek Sander (48) and had been arrested in Curup, Bengkulu.

"It happened on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at around 03.00 WIB. We arrested them 2 days later at one of the huts where they gathered. Jalan Orang Kayo Pinggai, Talang Banjar Village," said Police Chief Eko as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, September 7.

The victim was identified as Bambang, a resident of Kumpeh, Muarojambi Regency. At the time of the incident the victim was sleeping with his two friends in a hut in the East Jambi area.

Suddenly the perpetrator entered and immediately doused the victim with hard water. After the incident, the victim was taken to the Bratanata Hospital (DKT) for medical assistance.

However, when he arrived at the hospital, the victim could not be helped anymore with burns reaching 96 percent on his body.

"When the arrest was made, the suspect tried to escape and put up a fight, so the police took decisive and measured action, by shooting the suspect's left leg," said Kombes Eko Wahyudi.

To the police, the suspect, Joni, confessed that he was desperate to pour hard water out of revenge against the victim who some time ago had mistreated him.

"Because of revenge and added jealousy, because my ex-wife was ridden by a motorcycle by the victim," said Joni.

The perpetrator admitted that he regretted what he had done, because he did not know it would end like this. As a result of his actions, the suspect is subject to Article 340 in conjunction with Article 351 paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code, which carries a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum of life and death penalty.
