JOMBANG - Officers of the Correctional Division of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kanwil Kemenkumham) East Java conducted a search of the prison housing block at the Jombang Class II B Correctional Institution. A number of prohibited items were also seized during the search.
One of them is a water heater created by the inmates. This heater is made from a fork that is powered by an electric current through a self-assembled cable.
The Head of the Correctional Division (Kadiv) of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of East Java, Hanibal, said that the existence of this electronic device was prohibited because it burdened state finances and caused the electricity bill to swell.
"In addition, the presence of a device that does not comply with SNI has the potential to trigger a short circuit and cause a fire," said Hanibal as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, September 1.
Approximately 50 joint personnel were deployed for the search, including a special block for female inmates. Every side and corner of the room was searched by officers.
In addition to water heaters created by the inmates, officers also confiscated mini loudspeakers, sharp objects, found lighters and excess drugs. These objects also have the potential to be misused.
"Our focus is to prevent and minimize the presence of prohibited items in residential rooms. We also secure the make-up glass, which is mostly from the women's block," he said.
In addition to search raids, the team also conducted random urine tests to ensure that employees and inmates are free from narcotics abuse.
In total there were 25 inmates and 13 officers who took part in the test and all of them were declared negative from the results of the urine examination.
Hanibal also expressed his appreciation to the entire team on duty. According to him, searches of residential rooms should be carried out regularly.
"The target is at least once a week there is a search of residential blocks," said Hanibal.
