Just Appointed A Lawyer, Yahya Waloni Will Apply For Suspension Of Detention

JAKARTA - The lawyer for the alleged blasphemy case against Yahya Waloni, Juju Purwantoro, said he would file a request for a suspension of detention. It is planned that the application will be carried out in the near future.

"(The suspension of detention) We will probably apply for it tomorrow or the day after tomorrow," said Juju to VOI, Monday, August 30.

The request for a suspension of detention will only be made, said Juju, because previously Yahya Waloni had not officially appointed a lawyer. The appointment was only made formally as of today.

"Yes, because the new power of attorney is official today. Now, we will also give this power of attorney first to the investigators," said Juju.

Later, after the process is complete, Juju continued, then focus on submitting a request for a postponement.

Meanwhile, Yahya Waloni's health condition is said to have improved. However, Yahya Waloni still needs medical treatment.

"He has started to improve, his health development is quite good," said Juju.

Yahya Waloni was arrested at his residence in Permata Housing, Cluster Dragon, Cileungsi, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Thursday, August 26.

The arrest of Yahya Waloni was based on the police report (LP) number LP/B/0287/IV/2021/BARESKRIM dated 27 April 2021. In the report, Yahya was considered to have insulted the Bible in his lecture. In fact, Yahya has been named a suspect in the case.

However, investigators were forced to take Yahya Waloni to the Police Hospital, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. Because, his condition deteriorated after being arrested. It was later discovered that he had a heart attack.
