JAKARTA - Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman asked the Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to fire the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Lili Pintauli Siregar if found guilty of violating the code of ethics.
This was conveyed by Boyamin in response to the decision of the KPK Supervisory Board which will be implemented on Monday, August 30 or today. Lili was reported after allegedly communicating with the inactive Tanjungbalai Mayor M Syahrial, whose case is being handled by the anti-corruption commission.
"MAKI asks the KPK Council to impose a maximum sanction in the form of dismissal if found guilty of violating a severe code of ethics," said Boyamin in a written statement quoted on Monday, August 30.
"The toughest sanction for the Corruption Eradication Committee is a request for the resignation of the defendant, which can be understood as dismissal," he added.
In addition, MAKI will also report Lili to the Police Criminal Investigation Unit if she is found to have violated ethics. Boyamin said this report was made based on Article 36 of the KPK Law Number 30 of 2002.
The article reads as follows: "KPK leaders are prohibited from having direct or indirect relationships with suspects or other parties who are related to corruption cases handled by the Corruption Eradication Commission for any reason."
Furthermore, Boyamin hopes that whatever decision Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean et al make can fulfill the sense of justice and the expectations of the community.
"All Indonesian people who want the KPK to remain strong and not weakened as the opinion of the KPK so far has weakened due to the revision of the KPK Law and the controversy over the KPK leadership regarding TWK," said Boyamin.
As previously reported, Lili was reported to the KPK Supervisory Board by two inactive KPK investigators for failing to pass the Novel Baswedan and Rizka Anungnata National Insight Test (TWK) Assessments, as well as the now retired Director of the KPK's Inter-Commission and Institutional Network Development (PJKAKI) Sujanarko.
Novel Baswedan et al reported Lili on two alleged violations. First, he allegedly contacted the inactive Tanjungbalai Mayor M Syahrial and informed him of the handling of the alleged corruption case that ensnared him, namely the sale and purchase of positions in the Tanjung Balai City Government.
Second, Lili is said to have used her position as the head of the KPK with the aim of pressuring the Mayor of Tanjungbalai Syahrial. This was done to settle the staffing affairs of his sister-in-law Ruri Prihatini Lubis at the Tirta Kualo Tanjungbalai Drinking Water Company.
