JAKARTA - The South Sulawesi COVID-19 Task Force released an additional 32 people who died from exposure to the new variant of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in South Sulawesi on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

The addition of the death rate recorded the percentage of deaths in South Sulawesi of 1.88 percent with a total death toll of 1,943 people.

Head of the Public Health Division of the South Sulawesi Health Service, Husny Thamrin in Makassar, acknowledged that there was an increase in the percentage of deaths in South Sulawesi because the Task Force data also showed that 1.82 percent of deaths on August 20 rose to 1.88 percent today.

"Alhamdulillah, the death rate is much lower than the national curve, which is at 3.2 percent, hopefully, we can take measures to reduce the rate of virus spread", he said as quoted by Antara, Friday, August 27.

The increasing number of deaths in South Sulawesi was also followed by the recovery rate which reached 90.24 percent. The COVID-19 Task Force recorded a recovery rate of 93,110 people with the addition of 367 people this Thursday.

"Compared to the national level, our recovery rate is lower. The national COVID-19 recovery rate is at 90.8 percent", he said.

Therefore, several efforts have been optimized by various parties to reduce the transmission rate of COVID-19, especially in Makassar City regarding the mall opening agreement.

The mall is back in operation from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm with some conditions such as visitors in the mall area being allowed at 50 percent capacity. The capacity of food and beverages tenants is 25 percent for dine-in.

In addition, each dining table is reserved for two visitors only. One thing that is of particular concern, visitors who are allowed to access the mall area are aged 12-70 years, and have taken at least the first dose of vaccine.

Meanwhile, as for the addition of new cases, 565 people were tested positive for COVID-19, while 8,127 were active positive.
