Fast Action From The Police To Arrest Muhammad Kece In Bali After Being Urged By MUI

DENPASAR - Police moved quickly to track down Muhammad Kece at his hiding place in North Kuta, Badung, Bali. Muhammad Kece was arrested on suspicion of blasphemy.

The arrest of Muhammad Kace alias Muhammad Kece was carried out on Tuesday, August 24 at around 19.45 p.m. local time.

"Last night, Muhammad Kace was arrested, led directly by the Cyber Police Headquarters in collaboration with the Bali Police Cyber Sub-Directorate", said Head of Public Relations of the Bali Police, Commissioner Syamsi, when contacted on Wednesday, August 25.

After being arrested in Dalung Village, North Kuta, Bali, Muhammad Kece was taken to Jakarta. But Commissioner Syamsi admitted that he did not know how long Muhammad Kece had been in Bali.

"The next process after the arrest is handled directly by the Cyber Police Headquarters. So we don't know how long (in Bali), that's the authority of Cyber", he said.

This arrest was made by the police after previously the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) issued pressure to the Police to arrest Muhammad Kece.

Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Abbas asked the police to immediately take action against Muhammad Kece who was considered to have insulted and demeaned Islam.

"I ask the police as soon as possible to arrest, process, and for the court to decide whether the actions in question are correct or not", said Anwar Abbas in a written statement, Monday, August 23.

Anwar assessed that all M. Kece's words on his Youtube page were baseless, only based on hatred. "Kece's statement has the potential to disrupt religious harmony", he said.

He hopes that the lecture/message delivery will not be colored by hate speech and contempt for anything. In conditions like today, all parties should be able to knit togetherness and harmony with each other.

"In the video that has been circulating recently and recently, I saw that he has crossed the boundaries. In my opinion, it will disrupt the harmony of life between religious communities in this country", he said.

On the other hand, he also asked Muslims to be patient and not provoked by emotions and to submit the matter to the police.

"This is something we don't want. Even though religious relations are very harmonious, none of us criticize each other, we respect each other. That's how we should be in a Pancasila state where the first principle is Belief in One Supreme God", he said.

In the legal process, Muhammad Kece was charged with multiple articles in the alleged blasphemy case. In this case, the penalty is 6 years in prison.

The article that will be suspected is about deliberately spreading information that can create feelings of hatred, hostility in society based on SARA. Where it is stated in Article 28 Paragraph 2 juncto Article 45 A paragraph 2 of the Constitution of electronic information and transaction (ITE).

"You can be snared by this sentence, you could be sentenced to 6 years in prison", said Head of Public Information Bureau (Karo Penmas) of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Birgjen Rusdi Hartono, to reporters, Wednesday, August 25.

Then, in this case, Muhammad Kece will also be charged with Article 156 a of the Criminal Code. Where the article regulates blasphemy.

"About that article that was imposed on the person concerned", said Rusdi.
