Women's Representation In The DPR Has Increased, Because They Have Been Artists Or Have Political Relations

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, said that currently the level of women's representation in the DPR RI is increasing. However, they were elected because they had relations with other politicians or were elected because they had previously been involved in the art world and had been public figures.

In fact, the hope is that those who will be elected are women who already have actions in society. So that it can voice and solve problems in the community.

"We hope that women who are present in the DPR have a long track record as women activists, but not only that. But also other activists who have experience who are ready to fight with anyone to win a seat for representation," said Doli in a discussion entitled 'The Election Bill: Where is the Affirmation Policy for Women's Representation? ' which was broadcast on Perludem's YouTube account, Friday, June 26.

So he considered, there needs to be an acceleration for women's resources so that they are more able to compete with men in the political world. Especially if you want to become people's representatives in the Indonesian Parliament.

This is because, if women's representation continues to be improved but the ability of women's resources in the political field does not develop, this will become a new problem.

"If for example, we strengthen the affirmation of women's representation, but women's resources do not accelerate, this will be a problem," he said.

This acceleration, he said, is expected to produce a large generation of politically literate and reliable women. Given that there are not so many female political figures in Indonesia who represent society, they can even be counted.

This Golkar Party politician also said that if necessary, the issue of women's acceleration in the political sector would later be formulated. Thus, women politicians will be born who can represent Indonesian society, not only women.

"This is what we need to discuss, if possible there are rules that lead to that direction," he said.

The Chairperson of the KPP-RI Presidium, Diah Pitaloka said that the political relations mentioned by Doli were actually political assets. He explained that there are several political capitals in the electoral process apart from political relations, namely the political basis, logistics, media access, and socio-cultural strength.

It's just that, Diah denied that political relations only become political capital for women. According to him, many men also make political relations their capital.

"Political relations are not only unique to women. If we open them, there could be a lot of male parliamentarians who have political relations and make that political capital to win," said Diah.

Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of KPPI, Dwi Septiawati Djafar, assessed that there are a number of ways so that women who are elected as members of parliament are those who really understand issues in society and are able to enter the world of politics.

He proposed this method to be included in the Election Bill which is currently being discussed by Commission II of the DPR RI. This method is to require membership requirements for political parties at least two years prior to election or candidacy.

"So that it doesn't matter, out of nowhere, being registered as a member of a political party, getting KTA and then becoming a legislative candidate in a good serial number," said Dwi.

Because, this is considered to be able to get rid of fellow female candidates who turn out to have more abilities. "So that there is a process of internalizing the political parties' vision and mission," he said.

He also assessed that political parties should be able to ensure that people who sit and are placed as women legislative members can carry out their duties properly.

"Even though the political parties think pragmatically, the important thing is to win, to be able to place many councils, but the political parties must be able to ensure that those people understand their vision and mission," he concluded.
