Becoming Inspector Of Ceremonies, Anies: We All Have A Responsibility To Fulfill The Promise Of Independence

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government held a flag-raising ceremony in the context of the 76th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in the courtyard of the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, today. DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan acted as the ceremony inspector.

The ceremony was carried out following health protocols. Every participant in the ceremony, up to the flag-raising troops, wore masks and kept their distance.

In the ceremonial inspector's mandate, Anies reviewed the history of Indonesia's independence. He explained that the Indonesian people declared independence after 17 years of the Youth Pledge.

Anies said that the declaration of independence was not made by a group of people, but by all people who had felt the pressure of colonialism for hundreds of years.

"The statement that we are independent is not just a roll up of colonialism, but a statement to promote social justice, promote prosperity. Because the title of justice is what the Indonesian people want," said Anies.

That is why, when commemorating the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Anies asked all parties to remember the responsibilities that still must be carried out, namely the establishment of social justice and welfare.

"We all have a responsibility to fulfill the promise of independence. Our promise of independence is to protect and promote the general welfare. It means that we who are standing in this place now have the responsibility to complete it," said Anies.

Therefore, in the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, Anies said this was an opportunity to realign the priority that the state must be present to provide health assistance in Jakarta, such as vaccination services to provide protection from the virus.

"Anyone who needs to get protection through vaccination, Jakarta will carry out the vaccination for anyone who needs it. The principle we uphold is a just and civilized humanity," he explained.
