JAKARTA - Head of the Central Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Kompol Lilik Sumardi explained that his party will sterilize the road to the Merdeka Palace starting Tuesday, August 17, in the morning.

"We will open (the road) after the event. There will also be a flag lowering, so around Magrib, the flag lowering will be completed," said Lilik when confirmed, Monday, August 16.

Central Jakarta Metro Police officers plan to close a number of protocol roads in the Merdeka Palace area during the Proclamation Moments Ceremony in commemoration of the 76th Republic of Indonesia Anniversary, Tuesday 17 August.

Lilik explained that traffic diversion will be implemented at at least three road points around the Merdeka Palace. Jalan Merdeka Timur to Merdeka Utara will be closed. Vehicles will be diverted to Jalan Perwira and rotate at the Istiqlal Mosque towards Jalan Juanda and Harmoni.

Then, Jalan Veteran III was also closed, so that drivers from Jalan Juanda could not turn left towards the Merdeka Palace area.

Current diversion is also carried out at Simpang Harmoni to Monas. The Majapahit road to Monas will be closed, so drivers from Jalan Hayam Wuruk will be turned left towards Jalan Juanda.

"Majapahit Street cannot be (traversed) temporarily while the event is taking place. If the event is no longer taking place, we will open it," said Lilik.

Meanwhile, Jalan Merdeka Barat towards Harmoni was not closed.

The Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya deployed around 300 police personnel to secure traffic flow around the Merdeka Palace.

The Commemoration Ceremony of the Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 2021 will be held in a limited manner by implementing strict health protocols.

To maintain the solemnity of the event and respect the commemoration, the entire community is expected to pause activities for a moment and take a perfect attitude on August 17, 2020 at 10.17 WIB.
