JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) announced a new rule as a condition for traveling by train during the extension of PPKM level 4 in several areas.

VP of Public Relations of KAI (Persero), Joni Martinus, said the rules for using the latest trains refer to the Circular Letter of the COVID-19 Task Force number 17 of 2021 concerning Provisions for Travel of Domestic People during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

"KAI is still implementing strict train travel requirements that will apply from August 13, 2021, with the extension of PPKM Level 4 in various areas by the government until August 16, 2021", said Joni Martinus in a statement quoted by Antara, Thursday, August 12.

Joni explained that the travel requirements using long-distance trains include;

1. Show a vaccine card for at least the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination. For customers with special health conditions or comorbid diseases that prevent them from receiving vaccines, they are required to attach a doctor's certificate from a government hospital stating that the person concerned has not and/or is unable to participate in the COVID-19 vaccination.

2. Show a certificate of negative RT-PCR test results a maximum of 2x24 hours or an Antigen Rapid Test a maximum of 1x24 hours before departure.

3. Customers under the age of 12 are temporarily not allowed to travel.

Terms of travel using local trains;

1. Only valid for workers in the Essential Sector and Critical Sector as evidenced by STRP or other Certificate issued by the local Government or Letter of Assignment from the company leadership.

2. Customers are not required to show a vaccine card and a certificate of negative results for the RT-PCR test or Antigen Rapid Test. However, a random Rapid Test of Antigen will be carried out to customers at the station.

He conveyed that to provide convenience for customers and support government programs in establishing herd immunity, KAI provides free vaccination services for customers at 15 stations.

Stations that serve free COVID-19 vaccinations are Gambir Station, Pasar Senen, Bandung, Cirebon, Semarang Tawang, Purwokerto, Yogyakarta, Solo, Madiun, Surabaya Gubeng, Surabaya Pasar Turi, Malang, Jember, Medan, and Padang.

Joni said that until August 11, 2021, KAI had served 25,026 people who were vaccinated at the station.

In addition, Joni emphasized that customers who do not meet the requirements will not be allowed to travel and tickets will be refunded 100 percent.

"In the period 3-9 August, there were 2,201 customers who were refused to leave because they did not meet the requirements", he said.

KAI recorded the number of long-distance and local train customers in the period 3-9 August as many as 124,353 customers, with an average daily subscriber of 17,765 customers.

When compared to the average daily customer for long-distance and local trains in June 2021, which was 86,514 customers, long-distance and local train customers on August 3-9 fell by 79.4 percent.

As an effort to implement health protocols, one of which is physical distancing, KAI only sells tickets as much as 70 percent of the maximum seating capacity for long-distance trains and 50 percent for local trains. Customers are also still required to comply with health protocols and apply 3M, namely wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining distance.

Joni added that KAI has consistently implemented strict health protocol disciplines since being at the station and during the train journey.

"We always fully support all government policies during the pandemic to suppress the spread of COVID-19 through rail transportation", said Joni.
