JAKARTA - The Indonesian Migration Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) has succeeded in thwarting the smuggling of seven women victims of human trafficking to Iraq.
Head of BP2MI Benny Rhamdani said that his party carried out a raid on a house that was used as a shelter for victims of trafficking, in the Cibubur area, East Jakarta.
The plan is that the seven women from various regions, Sukabumi, Indramayu and Karawang will be smuggled into the destination country on Thursday 12 August.
"The raid on a human trafficking shelter was carried out in the Cibubur area, Jakarta
East, Wednesday 11 August, last night. We found these seven women," said Benny Rhamdani to reporters, Thursday, August 12.
According to Benny, his party has banned all TKI distribution companies to the Middle East since 2016. Benny does not want Indonesian workers in the Middle East to become victims of conflicts between countries.
"They were almost sent to the State of Iraq. Imagine they were sent to a conflict country?," said Benny.
Benny appealed for now and in the future there should be no more modern slavery.
"They are human beings who we must respect, but then traded by human trafficking syndicates," he said.
