JAKARTA - The Halal Product Guarantee Administration Agency (BPJPH) conveyed that food and drinks provided for Indonesian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia are guaranteed to be halal and safe.

The Main Secretary of BPJPH Muhammad Aqil Irham emphasized that the halal and security was ensured through monitoring carried out by the BPJPH monitoring team in terms of kitchens for Hajj pilgrims services.

"In addition to various other service facilities, joint monitoring is also carried out to ensure that Indonesian pilgrims get standard designed catering services. Of course, halal, safe, healthy and even according to the tastes of the archipelago," said Aqil as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 31.

The BPJPH monitoring team conducted monitoring starting from raw materials to packaging and presentation of food products.

The monitoring, continued Aqil, was carried out from 27 nights to 28 May 2025 in the morning and focused on aspects of the consistency of the kitchen in carrying out the practice of the halal and hygienic product process, including cleanliness of the work area, flow of materials in and out, to recording materials.

"We check starting from raw materials such as rice, spices, cooking oil, water, and flour. Then, the examination continues at the washing, drying, cooking, and final packaging stages," he said.

The results of general monitoring of the production process, he said, showed that catering kitchens had committed to implementing Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) or Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, ranging from product materials, production to product packaging.

Aqil explained further observations at the warehouse for storing materials showing that the raw materials for producing food packages were obtained from Saudi Arabia, such as rice from Thailand and India, frozen meat from Pakistan and Brazil, and a number of other materials from the Philippines or Malaysia.

"The ingredients from Indonesia have also begun to be included, although not many. However, what is encouraging is the existence of pasta spices from Indonesia initiated by BPKH Limited which has been labeled Halal Indonesia and this makes the foods consumed by Indonesian pilgrims more enjoyable. Indonesia, "he said.
