With Ministry Of Transportation Assistance, Jayapura City Government Makes KM No Place For COVID-19 Patient-Centered Quarantine

PAPUA - Spokesperson for the Jayapura City COVID-19 Task Force, dr. Nyoman Antari acknowledged that the Jayapura City Government, Papua received assistance from KM Tidar from the Minister of Transportation through the Director General of Sea Transportation, to serve as a centralized quarantine place for COVID-19 patients.

"It is true that we received assistance from KM Tidar, which will later be used as a place to treat residents who are positive for COVID-19," said dr. Nyoman Antari, Wednesday night August 11 in Jayapura, as quoted by Antara. "However, it is not certain when it will start operating, because the handover of aid to the Mayor of Jayapura will only be held on Thursday (11/8) virtually," continued dr. Nyoman Antari. He further explained that the Jayapura City Government currently operates one place as a centralized quarantine location, namely at LPMP Kotaraja which is now treating 102 COVID-19 patients, both asymptomatic and with mild symptoms. The number of people being treated at LPMP Kotaraja is quite high, because since it was reopened since the end of June, it has treated 534 people and 424 people have recovered. "Request for assistance from the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) so that the ship owned by PT Pelni can be used as a centralized quarantine facility, due to positive cases of COVID -19 in Jayapura City is still high," explained dr. Nyoman, while admitting that the addition of a centralized quarantine place, is expected to be able to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The woman who serves as the Head of the Jayapura City Health Service added that considering that Jayapura will be one of the venues for PON XX and Peparnas XVI, it is hoped that COVID-19 cases will decrease before the two events. In Jayapura City as of Wednesday, there were 12,385 positive people, 9,914 people recovered, 2,217 people were treated and 254 people died.
