Anies Insists That Formula E Will Be Held In June 2022, Deputy Governor Riza: It's Jakarta's Birthday

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria confirmed that DKI Governor Anies Baswedan is targeting the Formula E racing event to be held in June 2022. Riza said that his party insisted on the title of Formula E to celebrate Jakarta's birthday.

"Jakarta's birthday is in June. Formula E, God willing, will be held in 2022. We hope it will be in June. We'll just have to wait," said Riza at City Hall, Central Jakarta, August 9.

To realize the implementation of this electric-powered car racing event, Riza asked all parties to wait for the results of the decision from the Formula E organizers.

"We are waiting for a decision from there, Jakpro and the sports department are coordinating with Formula E," he said.

Previously, Anies targeted that Formula E could be implemented in June 2022. This was stated in the Governor's Instruction (Ingub) Number 49 of 2021 concerning the Settlement of Regional Priority Issues for 2021-2022. Anies still maintains his desire to hold Formula E, even though Jakarta is not included in the calendar in 2022. This effort is carried out by renegotiating with Formula E Operation (FEO), the manager of Formula E in New York, United States.

"PT Jakarta Propertindo has renegotiated with the FEO regarding the confirmation and clarity of the status of the sustainability of the cooperation, the time of implementation, and the status of the funding that has been paid," Anies said in an explanatory document regarding the changes to the 2017-2022 RPJMD.

However, after the renegotiations, it turns out that currently FEO has not issued any certainty regarding whether Jakarta will continue to host Formula E or not due to waiting for the development of the pandemic.

"The payment of the commitment fee for the 2022 event and beyond will be rescheduled after the certainty of the implementation of Formula E taking into account the end of the COVID-19 pandemic," he explained.
