Islamic New Year 1 Muharram, MUI: An Event For Contemplation And Evaluation Of Self And Nation

JAKARTA - This evening, after sunset, Muslims began to enter the new hijri year, 1 Muharram 1443 H.

Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Prof Anwar Abbas, invites the people and all Indonesian people to make this new year's momentum a place for reflection to get closer to Allah SWT. Moreover, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic which has not yet ended.

Whether done as individuals, families, communities, nations, and even countries. Because according to Buya Anwar Abbas, with the changing of the year, at that time the rest of human life will decrease.

"We make this year's turn as an opportunity to do muhasabah or time to evaluate ourselves. Whether as individuals, family members, members of the community, nation and state, to formulate and take steps to improve in the future," said Anwar Abbas in his statement, Monday, August 9th.

Anwar said, through the momentum of the turn of the hijri year as well, MUI appealed to all elements of the nation to take this time as an opportunity to reflect and evaluate themselves (muhasabah).

"Let's make this year's turn as an opportunity to do muhasabah," he said.

The chairman of PP Muhammadiyah said that the country of Indonesia is currently being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Where the impact reaches economic, social, legal and political issues.

Moreover, according to him, until now the state has not seen the state to heed the mandate of the constitution and Pancasila as a guideline.

"We have not seen the values contained in Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution, can be upright in accordance with what we hope and aspire to," he said.

In fact, continued Anwar, Pancasila was only used as a mere jargon. Without concrete implementation and impact on the welfare and sovereignty of the Indonesian people.

The irony, he said, is that the people who most often convey the slogan are actually taking more steps and policies that uphold the ideology of liberalism of capitalism.

"So what we see is that this country has moved and shifted from upholding the sovereignty of the people," said Anwar Abbas.
