Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez Test Positive For COVID-19

JAKARTA - Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez was diagnosed with COVID-19. It is known that he is undergoing treatment and will be working remotely through his aides. This was conveyed directly by Hernandez on Tuesday evening, June 16.

"As the country's president and responsible citizen, I would like to convey that over the weekend I felt uncomfortable and today I was diagnosed with COVID-19," Hernandez said in a televised address.

"They (the medical team) recommended me to rest but I will continue to work remotely and through my helpers," he added.

Hernandez also explained that he had mild symptoms. However, after starting to receive treatment, she now feels better. Meanwhile, his wife and two aides were also diagnosed with COVID-19 and are currently undergoing treatment.

First Lady Ana Garcia de Hernandez is asymptomatic and will self-quarantine at home. President Hernandez will also be kept under observation for further decisions on where treatment will be carried out, as recommended by his doctor, the government said in a statement.

Hernandez himself is known to have taken a number of drugs, including microdacyn, azithromycin, ivermectin, and zinc. In Honduras alone, there are 9,568 confirmed cases of COVID-19. A total of 330 of them died and 1,075 managed to recover. To suppress the spread of the virus, Honduras has issued several policies, such as a lockdown guarded by the military and a curfew.

Before the news that Hernandez had contracted COVID-19, the Honduran government extended the curfew until Sunday, June 28, 11:00 p.m. WIB. Under the latest rules, other activities such as shopping and essential activities are also restricted.

The Honduran National Police also announced that businesses in the official sector will only be open Monday through Friday. Shopping and important activities will be allowed from 9.00 WIB to 17.00 WIB.
