Accepting President's Instructions, Danrem 172/PWY Ready To Help Overcome The Spike Of COVID-19 In Papua

JAKARTA - The commander of Korem (Danrem) 172/PWY Brigadier General Izak Pangemanan asked his staff to support and assist the government in overcoming the spike in COVID-19 in Papua.

This was conveyed by him after receiving instructions from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the online PPKM Level 4 Development Evaluation and Follow-up Meeting in areas outside Java-Bali online, Saturday, August 7.

In his briefing, President Jokowi asked regional heads outside Java-Bali to pay special attention to the spread of COVID-19 due to an increase in cases. The meeting was attended by 21 governors and 70 regents/guardians whose territories are outside the islands of Java-Bali.

The former governor of DKI Jakarta explained that as of July 25, there was an increase in COVID-19 cases to 34 percent or 13,200 cases nationally. Successively, the increase continued even as until Friday, August 6, there were additional 21,374 positive cases or 54 percent.

The areas outside Java-Bali that experienced a massive increase were East Kalimantan, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Riau.

Furthermore, Jokowi said there are three important things that must be responded to quickly. First, reduce community mobility for two weeks to reduce the spike in cases.

Next, testing and tracing must be accelerated so that positive cases of COVID-19 can be found. In addition, regional heads are also asked to immediately make centralized isolation by utilizing facilities such as schools, halls, and sports buildings in their respective regions.

Lastly, the President also asked for the acceleration of vaccination for all people without exception.

After President Jokowi's direction, the meeting was continued by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy together with the relevant Ministers, namely the Minister of Health, Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of PUPR, Minister of Transportation, Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces and the National Police Chief. This meeting provides a more technical description of following up on the directives of the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
