FAKFAK - Allegations of malpractice accompanied by insults to the medical profession in Fakfak Regency, West Papua, made two internal medicine specialists resign from the Regional General Hospital (RSUD).
The resignation of two doctors on behalf of dr. Djahalia Rumagesan SpPD and dr. Subhan Rumoning SpPD was conducted on Wednesday, August 4th.
dr. Djahalia Rumagesan SpPD confirmed that the resignation was motivated by the problem of a patient's family malpractice complaint which resulted in an insult to the profession.
"I work under pressure of contempt for myself and the medical profession, but I don't get any protection at all from the hospital or from the local government," said doctor Rumagesan, quoted by Antara, Thursday, August 5.
Rumagesan emphasized that he is very responsible for taking medical action for every patient he treats. However, the patient's family actually made allegations of malpractice and filed a complaint with the police.
"Repeatedly, the patient's family hurled insults at me and the medical profession, with accusations of malpractice, even though I dared to be responsible for the drugs I gave," said Rumagesan.
He also regretted the attitude of the leadership of the RSUD and the regional head of the Fakfak district who did not take any steps in the situation that befell him and his colleague, dr. Subhan Rumoning.
"The institution should have protected me, but instead I was clashed with the patient's family and this happened repeatedly," he added.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Central Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Adip Khumaidi stated that he had not received any information on allegations of malpractice and insulting the medical profession experienced by two doctors in Fakfak Regency.
"Until now we have not received the report, but we will coordinate with IDI West Papua and IDI Fakfak district, to find out clearly what the problem is through the statements of the two parties," said Adip Khumaidi.
