JAKARTA - A volunteer health worker from a health campus in Kediri, East Java, died after previously receiving treatment due to exposure to COVID-19.

Kediri Mayor, Abdullah Abu Bakar, said the deceased was named Digma Marchya Agatha (23), a sixth-semester student at the Bhakti Wiyata Institute of Health Sciences, Kediri City.

Digma became an antigen swab volunteer starting July 12, 2021, but since July 30, 2021, she has been in self-isolation in her hometown, Sutojayan District, Blitar Regency, after feeling unwell.

From the results of the medical examination carried out on Digma, on July 31, 2021, the results of Digma's antigen swab were declared positive for COVID-19.

"On August 2, 2021, Digma's brother was taken to Kilisuci Hospital for treatment, but because her oxygen saturation was only 83 percent and then she was referred to Gambiran Hospital, Kediri City to get maximum treatment", said the Mayor in Kediri, reported by Antara, Wednesday, August 4.

He said the medical staff was trying hard so that Digma's life could be saved. She received treatment like other patients who were confirmed positive for COVID-19 with maximum care.

"But it turned out that fate said otherwise, after going through hard efforts to enter the ICU, Digma breathed her last", said Abu.

He is also saddened by this incident. The city government is also grateful for the assistance provided so far, being a volunteer.

"Goodbye hero, thank you very much for your dedication. The City Government of Kediri is indebted for your services at the vanguard of handling COVID-19 in Kediri City", said the Mayor, remembering Digma.

Head of the Kediri City Health Office, Dr. Fauzan Adima, added that Digma was a volunteer who carried out swabs for testing patients and had close contacts.

"Thanks to her hard work testing the close contacts of COVID-19 in Kediri, there has been a significant improvement, so that the handling of COVID-19 patients and their close contacts can be handled better", said Fauzan Adima.

The Kediri City Government previously also revealed that the COVID-19 tracing ratio in Kediri City was ranked first in East Java with a figure of 1:6.09, from the Silacak application data, as of August 1, 2021.

The number 1:6.09 is obtained from the number of close contacts that are tracked for each positive case, which means that in the City of Kediri six close contacts can be traced for each positive case.

In addition to increasing tracing numbers, the Kediri City Government is also targeting a total of 624 tests per day. This figure can still be achieved by the City of Kediri by involving swabber volunteers from health universities.

Until now, in Kediri City as of Tuesday, August 2,923 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19. 652 people are still being treated, 2,024 people have recovered and 247 people have died.
