JAKARTA - The police have issued a new regulation regarding the classification of a special driver's license (SIM) for motorcycles. SIM C for motorcycles is divided into three types and will be valid in August 2021.

This SIM classification is listed in Police Regulation (Perpol) Number 5 of 2021 concerning Issuance and Marking of SIM which was ratified on February 19, 2021.

According to the Head of Driver Standards for the Directorate of Registration and Identification of Traffic Corp of National Police, Grand Commissioner Adjutant Arief Budiman, it is targeted that this August, SIM C classification will be ready to be implemented.

There are three types of SIM C that will be applied. Among other things, SIM C, CI, and CII. The three SIM Cs are distinguished by the capacity of the cylinder contents of the vehicle.

Based on Police Regulation (Perpol) Number 5 of 2021 concerning Issuance and Marking of SIM Article 3 paragraph 2, the following is the classification of SIM C according to the capacity of the motor:

1. SIM C, valid for driving a motorcycle-type vehicle with an engine cylinder capacity of up to 250 cc (two hundred and fifty cubic centimeters);

2. SIM CI, valid for driving a motorcycle-type vehicle with an engine cylinder capacity of above 250 cc (two hundred and fifty centimeters cubic) to 500 cc (five hundred centimeter cubic) or similar Ranmor that uses electric power;

3. SIM CII, valid for driving a motorcycle-type vehicle with an engine cylinder capacity of more than 500 cc (five hundred cubic centimeters) or a similar vehicle that uses electric power.

This means that if people ride a motorcycle with an engine capacity of over 250 cc, they must upgrade to a CI SIM.

Meanwhile, owners of big motorbikes (MOGE) of 500 cc and above will be given dispensation. At least until 2022, driving a motorbike above 500 cc can use a CI SIM.

Grand Commissioner Adjutant Arief Budiman said that the implementation of SIM C classification is still targeted for August 2021, although PPKM is still being implemented. Currently, there is still something that needs to be prepared, namely the preparation of SOPs.

"Speaking of the fixed target in August. Yes, it could be in the middle or end of August. The point is that when it is implemented, there will be prior notification," said Arief, when confirmed by pmjnews.com, Sunday, August 1. For your information, the cost of making SIM C, CI, and CII remain the same. According to Arief, the cost of making the three classes of SIM C is contained in Government Regulation Number 60 of 2016 concerning Types and Tariffs for Types of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) Applicable to the Indonesian National Police.

In the attachment to the rules above, it is stated that the creation of a new SIM for SIM C is Rp100,000, SIM CI is Rp100,000, and SIM CII is Rp100,000.

Then, for the renewal of the driver, the three drivers are subject to the same tariff, namely Rp75,000 for SIM C, C 1, and C2. However, the above costs do not include the cost of health checks and insurance.
