Reisa: The Condition Of 80 Million Indonesian Children Is Not Okay

JAKARTA - Government Spokesperson for Handling COVID-19, Dr. Reisa Broto Asmoro, said that the situation of 80 million more Indonesian children is not doing well in the midst of the pandemic.

"Around 60 million Indonesian children have lost their good time at school, some of them can't even do distance learning because the facilities are not available," said Reisa Broto Asmoro, quoted by Antara, Friday, July 23.

Reisa said there are many children who miss the opportunity to play and get to know the outdoors. Even in cyberspace, the threat is still there, there are still many children who experience bullying, discrimination and verbal violence on social media.

"The pressure and mental burden of going through a pandemic is definitely not easy for Indonesian children, and most sadly, some of the Indonesian children, lost their parents who could not be saved, while suffering from COVID-19," he said.

Reisa conveyed the government's role in strengthening the 3T strategy (testing, tracing, and treatment) to representatives of children who were also present virtually in the activity.

"Not everyone has excellent health, for example elderly people who already have chronic diseases, if accidentally infected by people who carry the virus, it can be fatal," he said.

Reisa said that currently there are almost 1,000 COVID-19 referral hospitals throughout Indonesia, and there are almost 125,000 beds for COVID-19 patients in Indonesia.

"Hopefully this government effort will make more patients recover. Yesterday we recovered 36,370 cases, up from the previous day which amounted to 32,887," he said.
