JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government provides free cremation services in the Tegal Alur area specifically for Jakarta residents. This service is in collaboration with the West Sumatra-Riau United Teguh Association (HBT).

The provision of free cremation comes after the controversy over the high cost of cremation by crematoriums in the past.

The location of this crematorium is in the Tegal Alur Christian Public Cemetery (TPU) on Jalan Benda Raya, Kalideres, West Jakarta.

HBT Chairman Andreas Sofiandi said this service began operating on Saturday, July 24. Currently, a number of workers are preparing the crematorium machines at the site.

"So, the Governor (Anies Baswedan) provides this facility. We provide this machine (crematorium) to serve people who have had many complaints or have not been served," Andreas told reporters, Friday, July 23.

Andreas said the crematorium machine can cremate one body for 2.5 hours. If the officers work for 15 hours a day, that means they can serve 6 bodies per day.

Andreas said that his party does not only serve cremation for Christians. All bodies of various religions and beliefs can be served for cremation. Including, for poor people.

"We serve. So the names of the deceased must be processed immediately, because if they die, they no longer see being able or unable, but their bodies must be processed immediately," he explained.

The requirements needed to receive cremation services are a death certificate from the hospital or urban village, a photocopy of the ID card of the deceased, a photocopy of the ID card of the person in charge, and a photocopy of the family card (KK).

Andreas admitted that many parties had requested this cremation service. However, for the opening of the service, currently Andreas is still waiting for coordination with the DKI Provincial Government.

"A lot of people have actually asked for it. We are planning a service tomorrow. However, we are waiting for the instructions from the Governor and the Mayor of West Jakarta," he added.
