Two Italian Citizens Released By Judge, NTT Prosecutor's Office Files Cassation

JAKARTA - The East Nusa Tenggara High Prosecutor's Office has filed an appeal against the decision of the Kupang Corruption Court (Tipikor) which freed two Italian citizens.

Two Italian citizens were previously indicted for the alleged corruption case of transferring land assets belonging to the West Manggarai Regency Government which cost the state Rp1.3 trillion.

"The NTT High Prosecutor's Office has filed an appeal. We respect the court's decision but we are taking legal action against the decision by making an cassation," said the Head of the East Nusa Tenggara Province High Prosecutor's Office, Yulianto in Kupang, as reported by Antara, Thursday, July 22.

The Kupang Corruption Court on Wednesday, July 7 acquitted two Italian citizens Masilimiliano De Reviiziis and Mizardo Fabio in the corruption case of 30 ha of land assets belonging to the West Manggarai Regency Government in Labuan Bajo which cost the state Rp1.3 trillion.

The two Italian nationals were acquitted of all lawsuits.

According to Yulianto, the prosecutor's appeal was carried out because the facts of the trial of the two defendants showed the involvement of the two Italians in the corruption case of transferring land assets from the West Manggarai Regency Government in Labuan Bajo.

According to him, according to the results of the investigation by the High Prosecutor's Office, the two Italians were the people who enjoyed the most money from the sale of the land.

"We filed an appeal and the process is currently underway," said Yulianto.

The NTT Prosecutor's Office, he said, appreciates the legal process that has released the two Italian citizens so that it becomes a tough challenge for the NTT Prosecutor's Office if there is another decision after the cassation.
