KUDUS - All hospitals (RS) in Kudus Regency, Central Java, have started accepting referral patients from outside the region, both suspected and confirmed positive for COVID-19. This policy follows the hospital's very adequate capacity due to a decrease in patients.

"Hospitals from outside the region should refer COVID-19 patients to the referral hospital for handling COVID-19 in Kudus, because previously we were also assisted," said Kudus Regent Hartopo in Kudus as quoted by Antara, Monday, July 19.

There is still quite a lot of capacity for isolation beds for COVID-19 patients in hospitals. Based on data from July 17, 2021, the bed occupancy rate (BOR) is around 25 percent. While the ICU BOR is around 61 percent.

The number of patients being treated, he said, also decreased as of July 18, 2021, as many as 469 patients were confirmed positive for the corona virus, while 99 people were being treated and 370 people were self-isolating.

Even if there is a spike in referral patients from outside the region, Hartopo said, the BOR is limited to 70 percent to accommodate patients from the Kudus locale.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Loekmono Hadi Kudus Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Abdul Aziz Achyar revealed that the Kudus Hospital had received referral patients from outside the region. Starting from Pekalongan, Semarang, to Ungaran.

"For the number, we can't be sure because we have to look at the data first. But the number is quite a lot," he said.

He added that the patient referral system is now getting easier, it is enough to personally coordinate between the referring hospital and the referral hospital.

"When the referral hospital has a low BOR, of course it can be accepted immediately," said Abdul Aziz Achyar.
