Weak Tracing, Unhas Epidemiologist Predicts COVID-19 Cases In South Sulawesi To Increase After Eid Al-Adha

MAKASSARR - Hasanuddin University Epidemiologist Prof Ridwan Amiruddin predicts that the number of COVID-19 cases in South Sulawesi will increase after Eid al-Adha.

"So the current increase in cases for South Sulawesi with an increase of around 500 cases per day will continue to grow before and after Eid al-Adha," said Prof Ridwan in Makassar, quoted by Antara, Monday, July 19.

This epidemiologist from FKM Unhas stated that the increase in cases was suspected to be ineffective in tracing or tracing close contacts, which were only at 1:3 for positive cases of COVID-19 in the community.

In fact, according to him, the increase in tracing should be carried out at 1:30 or at least 1:15 to be able to stem the rate of COVID-19 cases which continues to grow.

Therefore, the South Sulawesi Provincial Government, in this case the COVID-19 Task Force, is expected to be more intensive in implementing 3T as a whole, starting from the act of carrying out COVID-19 tests (testing), tracing close contacts (tracing), and follow-up in the form of treatment for COVID-19 patients. -19 (treatment).

"Only now we are more focused on treatment programs so that all orientations are admitted to the hospital, while stemming outside cases does not run optimally, the tracing that is running is only limited, even for South Sulawesi the ratio is only at 1:3," he explained.

According to Ridwan, this means that tracing activities are not going well, so they must be addressed seriously.

"This is very, very bad during a pandemic, therefore the steps that must be taken are of course more intensive in implementing 3T," said Prof Ridwan, who is also the Head of Consultant for the South Sulawesi COVID-19 Task Force.

When asked about the COVID-19 Tourism Ambassador in controlling the corona case in South Sulawesi, Prof. Ridwan said that self-isolation carried out from home currently has a leakage rate of 40-50 percent.
