JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian reminded local governments to ensure that the joint PPKM operation team acts humanely. Do not let the officers get emotional when bringing order to the public.

"Regarding PPKM, the President emphasized that it should be carried out in a humanistic, polite and then humane way. It is not an exaggeration even though it remains firm because it disciplines the community in the midst of a society of different cultures," said the Minister of Home Affairs at a virtual press conference on the evaluation of the emergency PPKM, Saturday, July 17.

The Minister of Home Affairs gave an example of the Satpol PP Gowa case, South Sulawesi. who rebuked the cafe owner. Tito, when the news went viral on social media, immediately called the Regent of Gowa, Adnan Purrichta Ichsan.

"For example, in the Gowa case, action has been taken. I called the regent, Mr. Adnan, (Secretary of Satpol PP, Mardani Hamdan, was immediately removed. But don't let the morale of your friends down, this is a risk for us to work, the important thing is not to get emotional," said Tito.

The government realized that emergency PPKM and micro PPKM were very uncomfortable for the community. However, Tito emphasized that the emergency PPKM was carried out to suppress the spread of COVID-19.

"But it must be done in the context of the safety of the people, restrictions are uncomfortable but for the common good," he said.

In addition, Tito emphasized President Jokowi's directive for local governments to collect data for residents affected by the pandemic. From here, social assistance will be provided.

"There are restrictions that are affected, the economy is affected, MSMEs are affected. The president's directives are actually recorded by the affected people and assisted," said Tito.

“In the context of local government, I do coaching and monitoring. Local governments also have to share the burden, because local governments are at the forefront. Those who know the local government community understand the situation on the ground best," he continued.

The viral video of the beating of cafe owners including women by Satpol PP elements in Gowa has indeed caught the attention of President Joko Widodo. Jokowi regretted the rude actions of officers in the field related to micro PPKM.

"Then be careful in lowering the mobility index, regarding the isolation and handling of the community, traders, street vendors, shops, I ask the Police and later the Minister of Home Affairs to the regions, not to be harsh and rude.
