Public Street Lighting In Medan City Turned Off During Emergency PPKM

MEDAN - The Medan City Government, North Sumatra will turn off all public street lighting (PJU) on protocol roads at night. The goal is to optimize the policy for the Enforcement of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

"This is an agreement for all of us, the Medan City Government and all Forkopimda. Our agreement is to reduce mobility," said Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution at Medan Merdeka Square, quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 15.

Bobby Nasution said the purpose of this PJU blackout was for the public to comply with the emergency PPKM rules so as to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Because according to him, currently the number of people who have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the city of Medan has increased.

Therefore, Bobby Nasution appealed to the public to continue to adhere to the 5M health protocol, namely wearing masks, washing hands with soap and running water, maintaining distance, staying away from crowds, and limiting mobilization and interaction.

"What is being attacked is our health, our lives. Moreover, what is being debated is to save human lives, we should all agree to follow all of this," he said.

This PJU blackout will later be accompanied by joint patrol activities by officers from the Medan City Government with the assistance of TNI and Polri officers.

"In the future, we will patrol, to avoid unwanted things. For example, the lights go out, COVID-19 disappears, theft increases. So patrols will also be carried out to support this. Of course, every policy we take has a solution. ," said Bobby Nasution.
