JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public to be aware of the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds that could occur in a number of provinces in Indonesia on Wednesday, July 14.

In the weather early warning system, BMKG predicts areas that have the potential to experience heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, such as in Aceh, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, Gorontalo. Then West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Lampung, Maluku, Papua. In addition, in West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, and South Sumatra.

Especially in the DKI Jakarta area, on the same day it tends to be sunny and cloudy throughout the area from morning to night. Likewise in West Java, which tends to be sunny and cloudy from the morning and until the evening in all districts/cities.

Meanwhile, the BMKG asked the people in NTT to be aware of the potential for strong winds in the areas of Timor Island, Rote Island, Sabu Island, and Sumba Island. BMKG also asked the public to be aware of the potential for land fires.

Previously, the BMKG reported that a number of regions in Indonesia were facing high rainfall, even though it had entered the dry season. "The BMKG noted an increase in rainfall which resulted in flooding in several areas in Indonesia, especially in the northern part of Sumatra (Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra) and the Ambon (Maluku) region," said Head of the BMKG Weather Early Warning Sub Division, Agie Wandala. Agie said this was caused by the activity of several atmospheric waves, such as the MJO (Madden Julian Oscillation) which since July 3 has entered quadrant 3 (Indian Ocean). "The presence of atmospheric waves that always move eastward indirectly affects the increase in the amount of water vapor, especially in the areas closest to the waters of the Indian Ocean, such as Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra," he continued.
