JAKARTA - Heavy rain and strong winds hit Tebat Monok Village, Kepahiang Regency, Bengkulu on Sunday, July 11. This condition causes the tree to fall.

The fallen tree fell on a passing minibus. Head of National Agency for Disaster Information and Communication Data Center, Abdul Muhari, said two people on the minibus were reported to have died.

"Two residents were reported to have died and become victims of strong winds. Based on a report from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Kepahiang Regency, the victim died after the mini-bus he was traveling in was hit by a fallen tree", Muhari said in his statement, Monday, July 12.

Muhari said that there were other losses caused by this disaster, namely one housing unit was heavily damaged, one car was heavily damaged and another car suffered minor damage.

"The BPBD of Kepahiang Regency, assisted by a joint team of TNI, Police, and the community, has cleared the debris of a fallen tree using three chainsaws or sensors", he said.

The joint team also deployed one unit of heavy equipment loaders and excavators to move fallen trees on the road so that they could break down the congestion caused.

Based on an early warning issued by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) as of Wednesday, July 14, heavy rain that can be accompanied by lightning/lightning and strong winds is still potentially occurring in Bengkulu.

Besides Bengkulu, other areas such as the Riau Islands, Lampung, South Kalimantan, and North Maluku also have the potential for heavy rain and strong winds for the next two days.

Therefore, Muhari asked the government and the people in each area to immediately make mitigation efforts and increase preparedness in dealing with potential weather that could trigger a hydrometeorological disaster.

"BNPB also appeals to all components in the region to monitor weather developments from the BMKG and see potential regional vulnerabilities through National Agency for Disaster Management's InaRisk", he explained.
