JAKARTA - A resident of the Bukittinggi Correctional Institution (LP) in Biaro, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, was found dead by hanging himself in his detention room, Friday, July 9.

"The inmate named Marwan Siregar (42) was found dead hanging himself in the bathroom in room number 21 block A at 07.15 WIB," said Head of the Bukittinggi Prison, Marten di Biaro, as reported by Antara.

According to him, the discovery of the hanging victim was first discovered from the suspicions of other prisoners who were in the same cell. The victim has been sitting in the bathroom for too long.

"According to his cellmate, the victim entered the bathroom at dawn and then locked it from the inside, because he had been in the bathroom for too long, his roommate felt suspicious and called the guard," he said.

The victim, who was transferred from the Talu Prison in West Pasaman, hanged himself using a sarong. "The victim is an inmate with a murder case with a sentence of 16 years and nine months with a remaining sentence of 14 years," he said.

The Bukittinggi Police then processed the crime scene at the Biaro Prison and then took the victim's body to the Bukittinggi Hospital. "Furthermore, it is communicated to the victim's family for an autopsy if needed according to the family's request," he said.

The victim was previously known to have had no other problems during his sentence and had only been treated once with a history of hernia.

There are currently 630 inmates in the Bukittinggi Prison in Biaro who are still serving their sentences.
