Don't Try To Violate Emergency PPKM, Attorney General Affirms Legal Sanctions

JAKARTA - Attorney General Burhanuddin asserted that there are legal sanctions for violators of the Java-Bali emergency PPKM. The Attorney General's Office was asked to support emergency PPKM by enforcing the law for violators.

This affirmation was conveyed by the Attorney General in a virtual briefing, Sunday, July 4 evening. The Head of Information Center of AGO, Leonard Eben Ezer Simanjuntak said the Attorney General requested that the law enforcement process on the results of the judicial operation be carried out by implementing strict health protocols.

"That the violators of the COVID-19 Emergency PPKM policy, apart from being subjected to the minor crime article against certain violators, may also be subjected to the provisions of Article 14 of Law Number 4 of 1984 concerning Outbreaks of Infectious Diseases, or Articles 212 and 216 of the Criminal Code," said the AGO.

The Attorney General in his direction emphasized the responsibility of the AGO together with the TNI and Polri to support regional heads in the coordination and supervision of emergency PPKM.

In this regard, the Attorney General issued instructions for the head of the High Prosecutor's Office and the head of the District Attorney's Office. The Prosecutor's Office and the Prosecutor's Office were asked to coordinate with the COVID-19 Task Force, National Police, Regional Government, Public Order Enforcers, and courts in the operation of judicial enforcement of emergency PPKM disciplinary law.

"Ensuring that every violator of the health protocol is subjected to strict and indiscriminate sanctions and ensuring that the sanctions imposed are able to provide a deterrent effect to both the perpetrators and other members of the community," the Attorney General instructed.

In addition, district and state attorneys were asked to ensure that every procurement and distribution of goods related to the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic ran smoothly. The Attorney General's Office is asked to take firm action against efforts that have the potential to hinder or even thwart the procurement and distribution of these goods.

"Implement the Letter of the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia Number: B-132/A/SKJA/06/2021 dated June 30, 2021, without hesitation, to be able to provide a deterrent effect on violations of Government Policy regarding the COVID-19 Emergency PPKM in the context of controlling the spread of COVID-19 by providing support and special attention to the implementation of PPKM activities," continued the instructions of the Attorney General.
