Two Prosecutors Squeeze Village Heads In Riau Islands Under The Pretext Of Safeguarding Activities

JAKARTA - Two officers of the public prosecutor's office and a civilian were arrested by law enforcement for allegedly extorting the village head in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands, by asking for money and arguing for security of activities. They were secured by the Intelligence Team of the Bintan District Attorney and the Riau Islands High Court. on Wednesday, June 30. The two officers of the public prosecutor's office in question are administrative staff at the Tanjungpinang District Attorney's Office with the initials MR, and the administrative staff at the Bintan District Attorney's Office with the initials BI. Meanwhile, a civilian with the initials RR.

"Based on the Investigation Order of the Head of the Bintan District Attorney Number: 01, 02 and 03/L.10.15/Fd.1/07/2021 dated July 1, 2021. The three perpetrators have been designated as suspects by the Special Criminal Division of the Bintan District Attorney," said Assistant Assistant Riau Islands Attorney General's Office Intelligence Agustian Sunarya in a press statement at his office, Senggarang, Tanjungpinang, reported by Antara, Friday, July 2.

Agustian explained that the chronology of the determination of suspects against the perpetrators began on Wednesday (30/6), where the Bintan District Attorney's Intelligence field received information from the public regarding the existence of two people claiming to be prosecutors from the Riau Islands High Prosecutor's Office and prosecutors in the Bintan District Attorney's Intelligence section.

After checking, he said, information was obtained that it was true that two prosecutors asked for money from village heads in the Bintan Regency area on the grounds that they had data on irregularities in the Village Fund.

"We immediately responded to the information, by forming the Riau Archipelago Prosecutor's SDO Security Team," he said.

Then at around 21.30 WIB, he continued, the Bintan District Attorney's Intelligence Team managed to secure two prosecutors with the initials MR and BI along with an amount of Rp50 million. After that, the two were immediately taken to the Riau Islands High Prosecutor's Office for intensive questioning and the correct conclusion was obtained. there are indications of disgraceful acts and indications of criminal acts committed by the perpetrators, so that they are submitted to the supervision of the Riau Islands High Court for inspection of the case.

"After the allegations of ethical violations and indications of criminal acts, the two individuals were handed over to the Special Crimes Division of the Bintan District Attorney for further legal proceedings," Agustian explained.

Furthermore, the three suspects, namely MR, BI and RR, have been detained by Special Criminal investigators at the Bintan District Attorney with the status of detention at the Bintan Police Detention Center as of Thursday (1/7). Meanwhile, evidence in the form of cash amounting to Rp. 50 million has been confiscated. First, an antigen swab test was carried out and it was declared negative for COVID-19," said Agustian.
