JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) invites the community to jointly succeed in implementing the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in Java and Bali from 3 to 20 July 2021.

"As good citizens, we must support the government's policy regarding Emergency PPKM because we both don't want the number of victims to get sick and die because of COVID-19," said MUI Deputy General Chair Dr H Anwar Abbas, as reported by Antara, Jakarta, Thursday, July 1.

Anwar said that currently the transmission of COVID-19 was out of control. This condition was exacerbated by the emergence of a new Delta virus variant, which spreads faster than the old variant.

Therefore, he encouraged the government and the community to work together to make the Emergency PPKM policy a success and to accelerate vaccination. Thus, Indonesia can quickly get out of the pandemic crisis.

"Let's first get rid of the differences that exist between us and focus on making the PPKM policy a success because that's what's best for all of us," he said.

According to him, the success or failure of a policy is not only determined by whether or not the program has been made by the government, but also greatly depends on the support from the community itself.

"Moreover, as we all know, this COVID-19 problem, apart from damaging public health, has also hit the nation's economy, so that our goal for the welfare of the people cannot be carried out," he said.

He also highlighted the issue of public trust in the government which was considered to be declining. The government must restore public trust so that all programs can run optimally.

The public's distrust, he said, was allegedly due to the government's inconsistency in making decisions. He gave an example during Eid, the government forbade going home while on the other hand allowed tourist attractions to be opened.

"For this reason, the government must first be able to grow trust from the community, which in my opinion has almost disappeared because of the government's indecision," said Anwar Abbas.
