This Year's National Awakening Day Is A Moment Of Awakening From Corona Virus

JAKARTA - The 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kala asked the Indonesian people to make the commemoration of the National Awakening Day which falls today as an effort to rise from the COVID-19 pandemic.

JK said, there were differences in the struggles of society in the historical period 112 years ago and today. In the past, the nation struggled to raise nationalism towards independence.

However, now, people must rise up to prevent and fight the corona virus. However, there are similarities that are followed, namely efforts to unite for a purpose.

"So, the spirit of this awakening must become a new spirit. We must unite to get out of the problem (COVID-19), whose health crisis can cause death, then to the economy and society that can injure our national life," said JK in his presentation. broadcast by BNPB, Wednesday, May 20.

The general chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) said that people cannot just blame each other and surrender to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because, according to him, the enemy currently facing is a virus that does not recognize person, position or age. Anyone and anywhere that person can contract the corona virus if they are not disciplined in preventing transmission.

"We have to turn it off. If we just avoid it, don't turn it off, without killing it (the corona virus), it will spread and result in pain and death," said JK.

"It also causes our doctors to be busy (handling COVID-19 cases), so that our hospitals will be full, if we don't fight undisciplined to avoid the virus," he added.

Therefore, JK appealed to all people to unite in facing COVID-19 by implementing health protocols such as wearing masks, washing hands using soap and running water, cleaning houses using disinfectants, and maintaining distance.

"Let us raise the spirit of unity. It is no longer the spirit to increase nationalism, because we are already independent, but the spirit to save this nation rather than the disease, the spirit to save from the virus," he concluded.
