Unair BEM Management Reports Allegations Of Embezzlement Of Student Money

SURABAYA - Surabaya Police will investigate allegations of fraud and embezzlement of students from Universitas Airlangga (Unair) Surabaya. The police have received a report from one of the administrators of the Unair Student Executive Board (BEM).

"We received the report yesterday," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Surabaya Police AKBP Oki Ahadian Purwono, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 23.

The reporter for this case is Achmad Alak, who is the Minister of Creative Economy at BEM Unair.

He reported fraud and embezzlement related to the manufacture of Unair student jackets which were entrusted to third parties or vendors represented by Widhi Arif Budiman.

As a binder of cooperation, BEM Unair together with the vendor have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the manufacture of jackets.

As a follow-up to the MoU, some time ago Unair BEM had deposited a token payment as well as the first term payment of Rp. 20 million which was received by vendor representative Widhi Arif Budiman.

The money for the jacket was a donation from Unair students. However, until now, the promised Unair student jackets have never materialized. Widhi Arif Budiman is also difficult to contact and the jungle is unknown.

Not only that, in this case, Alak also accused a number of leaders in the management of BEM Unair, each with the initials AC and ZR of conspiring, because it was later discovered that they knew each other with Widhi Arif Budiman.

The indication is that without Alak's approval as Minister of Creative Economy BEM Unair, AC and ZR secretly borrowed Rp. 20 million from the Directorate of Student Affairs at Airlangga University, under the pretext of bailing out money for making student jackets that Widhi Arif Budiman had taken away.

The Rp20 million that AC and ZR borrowed from the Directorate of Student Affairs at Unair on behalf of the UNAIR BEM to bail out the money for making the jackets is still considered unclear how much it will be used.

So, according to Alak, now BEM Unair must bear a total loss of Rp. 40 million.

Kasatreksrim AKBP Oki ensured that he immediately followed up the report of the alleged fraud and embezzlement by conducting an investigation process.

"Please be patient. We only received the report yesterday. We will definitely follow up by conducting an investigation," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Unair Communications and Public Information Center (PKIP), Dr. Martha Kurnia Kusumawardani, when confirmed, has not responded to the reports that came to the Surabaya Police.

In fact, Martha has also been contacted by reporters several times via cell phones and short messages, but has not yet responded to the report.
