Discourse On 3 Unproductive Presidential Periods, Questioned The Qodari Figure Who Carry Jokowi-Prabowo 2024

JAKARTA - The discourse of a three-term presidential term surfaced again after the Executive Director of Indo Barometer, Muhammad Qodari initiated the formation of the 'Jokowi-Prabowo (JokPro) Community for 2024'.

As the name implies, this group intends to encourage President Joko Widodo to run again as a presidential candidate accompanied by Prabowo Subianto as his vice presidential candidate.

Political communication observer Emrus Sihombing assessed that Qodari's actions were not productive. Because according to him, apart from the unconstitutional three-term presidential idea, Indonesia is still busy with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"In the midst of facing COVID-19, ideas that are unconstitutional, unproductive, inconsistent with our democracy have emerged," Emrus said, confirmed by VOI, Wednesday, June 23.

Emrus regretted that the idea of a three-term presidential term was ejected from the figure of Qodari, who is actually an academic. Where should be able to straighten the narrative of the constitution.

"He is an intellectual, a surveyor who is certainly based on academic ability but offers things that are unconstitutional. I can't understand it," said Emrus.

Therefore, Emrus appealed to the public to turn around to voice the antithesis of the proposed 3 periods. Thus, unconstitutional issues do not dominate the public sphere.

According to two, there are 2 things that the public can do to reduce the issue of violating the constitution regarding the term of office of the president. First, the public can voice the Indonesian constitution which is the mandate of reform. As has been clearly regulated the term of office of the president is enough for 2 periods.

Second, the public must participate in voicing what President Joko Widodo has said that he rejects the 3 term presidential term.

"Don't let the views of these three periods dominate the public sphere so that people can be sedated from the unconstitutional discourse," said Emrus.

Regarding the opportunity to change the president's term of office to 3 terms through amendments to the 1945 Constitution, Emrus assesses that it is unlikely to materialize. The reason is, the wishes of the leaders and political parties of the country have not yet led to it.

"I see that our nation's leaders, political parties in Indonesia are still committed to the constitutional rules that state 2 terms. There are no political parties that have voiced three terms. So only they (the 2024 JokPro Community) have thrown it out in the public sphere." said Emrus.
