The Government Must Firmly Coordinate Handling The Increasing COVID-19

JAKARTA - Secretary of the PPP faction of the DPR Achmad Baidowi asked the government for seriousness and firmness in coordinating the pattern of handling the pandemic, especially when there was a spike in COVID-19 cases.

"Considering the increasingly violent spread of COVID-19 in a number of areas, we hope that the government is serious and firm in coordinating the handling pattern," said Achmad Baidowi or Awiek, quoted by Antara, Sunday, June 20.

Awiek suggested that the general policies in each region should be made the same, and their implementation adjusted to the capabilities and characteristics of the region.

According to him, this is important so that there are no differences in the treatment of implementation in the field like D.I. Yogyakarta, which has discussed regional quarantine or "lockdown", other regions have implemented large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), and some have implemented restrictions on community activities (PPKM).

"If this is left unchecked, it will appear as if there is no coordination with the central government," he said.

Awiek assessed that every policy taken must pay attention to the readiness of infrastructure in the region and carry out socialization properly.

He gave an example, unprepared, out of sync, uncoordinated handling of COVID-19 is the isolation in Suramadu which causes long queues.

According to him, this is dangerous and affects the durability of the bridge because it holds static loads for too long.

"The ban on gathering activities must be completely stopped to break the chain of the spread of COVID-19," he said.

In addition, Awiek also suggested that the work from home or "WFH" policy should be applied to all offices because the spread of COVID-19 in office clusters is increasing.

According to him, this step, especially in government agencies, is strictly for the next 14 days because community mobilization in the field has a big influence on the spread of COVID-19.
