Preventing Drug Trafficking, 19 Cipinang Prison Prisoners 'Shifted' To Nusakambangan

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) has transferred 19 inmates of the Cipinang Class 1 Correctional Institution (Lapas) to Nusakambangan. The transfer was carried out to prevent drug trafficking in prisons.

"The transfer of 19 convicts of the drug dealer category from Class I Cipinang Prison to Karanganyar Super Maximum Security Prison, Nusakambangan," said the Head of the Jakarta Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office, Ibnu Chuldun in his statement, Saturday, June 19.

The inmates with the initials AS, AL, AN, BY, BS, FZ, HG, IH, JF, MK, MI, MZ, OA, RD, SG, TH, VIG, YM, and YP were transferred on Friday, June 18. Before being transferred, they swab rapid antigen test to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"After it is confirmed that they are healthy, then they are transferred by bus with strict escort from the Ditjenpas, DKI Regional Office, Cipinang Lapas employees, to the Mobile Brigade of the Metro Jaya Police," said Ibnu.

Furthermore, Ibnu continued, the transfer process was carried out after coordinating with the Head of the Central Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office and the Head of the Correctional Division of the Central Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office.

"We hope that the transfer of these drug traffickers to the Karanganyar Super Maximum Security Prison can be effective in breaking the chain and preventing the illicit trafficking of narcotics in prisons/detention centers, especially in the DKI Jakarta area," said Ibnu.
