Defense Minister Prabowo: Indonesia's Defense System Product Of The 60s-70s Needs To Be Adjusted To The 21st Century

JAKARTA - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said the defense and national security system needed to be actualized and adapted to current conditions and in the next ten years.

The legal umbrella related to the current state defense and security system is very limited and old, said Prabowo at the National Conference on Defense and Security Systems. 21st Century People's Security of the Universe (Sishankamrata) in Sentul, West Java, Friday.

"Sishankamrata's strategic products are very limited, even those products from the 1960s-1970s, are more than 50 years old. They Need to be actualized, adapted to the 21st century, with the situation we are facing now and in the decades to come", Prabowo said at the Sentul Defense University, West Java, as reported by Antara, Friday, June 18.

So far, discussions related to the national defense and security system have been limited to members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), he said.

Therefore, all parties need to be involved to discuss the importance of the defense and security system in accordance with the times and technology.

"So far, the understanding and discussion of Sishankamrata have been carried out more within the TNI. So this conference is for consultation, exchange views on the Sishankamrata concept and how it is implemented. in the 21st century", he explained.

Prabowo assessed that the results of the conference were in line with the current state of defense and security challenges so that they could be used as a reference for defense officers in the field.

"I report the results of this conference to the Vice President, Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam), and also to the President, that the products produced are quite proud; accommodate and answer the challenges faced by actors in charge of national defense in the field", he said.

Prabowo also hopes that the recommendations produced at the national conference can become laws so that they can become a reference for related ministries/agencies.

"We suggest to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs that this product can be shaped into a law for our country so that it can be used as a guide by all institutions and all state institutions", he said.

Also attending the 21st Century Sishankamrata National Conference in Sentul was the Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Polhukam) Mahfud MD.
