Unlike The Makassar Network, The 13 Suspected Terrorists In Riau Are The Jamaah Islamiah Group

JAKARTA - Head of the Public Information Section (Kabagpenum) of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan said that 13 suspected terrorists arrested in Riau Province were known to be members of the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terrorist network group.

"They are known to be the JI terrorist network," Ramadhan said when confirmed in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 15, quoted by Antara.

Ramadhan said the Densus 88 Anti-terror Team was still investigating whether the Riau JI terrorist network was related to the suspected JI terrorist who was arrested in the East Java area in January 2021.

"What is clear is that this network is different from the one in Makassar, namely JAD. This is still being investigated by Densus," said Ramadhan.

Previously, it was reported that the Special Detachment 88 Anti-terror Team of the National Police arrested 13 suspected terrorists in the Riau area on Monday (14/6).

The National Police's Anti-terror Detachment 88 Team has continued to carry out terrorism prevention and countermeasures since January 2021, a number of suspected terrorists have been secured in a number of areas.

The arrests of suspected terrorists continued to be intensified after the suicide bombing at the Makassar Cathedral Church, South Sulawesi, on March 28, 2021.

Until April 2021, there were 99 suspected terrorists arrested with details in NTB five terrorist suspects, Jakarta 12 terrorists, Makassar 55 terrorists, East Java five terrorists, West Java six terrorists, Central Java six terrorists, Bekasi one terrorist, and Yogyakarta nine terrorists.

Recently, the Police Anti-terror Detachment 88 Team arrested 11 suspected terrorists in Merauke, Papua and one suspected terrorist in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. These 12 terrorist groups are members of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) who pledged allegiance to ISIS.

In early January 2021 the National Police's Densus 88 Anti-terror Team first arrested 22 suspected terrorists in East Java. The group is known as the Fahim group affiliated with Al Qaeda.
