KPK Speaks Out on Winda Lorenza: Witness in Customs Case but Does Not Fulfill Call

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed that there was a witness named Winda Lorenza who was summoned in connection with the alleged bribery of the import of goods in the Customs and Excise Directorate General. However, this figure did not attend the examination scheduled for April.

This was conveyed by KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when asked about the figure of the former wife of a policeman, Winda Lorenza who died in a strange manner in Medan, South Sumatra.

"In the case of alleged corruption related to bribery at the Customs and Excise in early April, investigators scheduled an examination of sister WL, but in the scheduling of the examination, the person concerned was not present," Budi told reporters at the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday, August 11.

However, Budi said his party could not confirm whether the person who died was Winda Lorenza. "Is the witness who was called at that time the same person as the one in question," he said.

"Because in the schedule of the examination, the person concerned was not present and there was no rescheduling or confirmation of the absence," continued Budi.

As for the examination, the investigators will actually investigate several things. Among them is the matter of money and assets of one of the defendants in the import bribery case.

In addition, Winda is also suspected of receiving assets from the defendant. "So the investigators then scheduled an examination for the person concerned to be excavated, investigated, and confirmed the information needed," said Budi.

Reported by a number of reports, Winda was found dead on August 2, 2026 after hearing the sound of an explosion from a locked bathroom. Police said Winda ended his life with a firearm based on the results of the crime scene, forensic laboratory tests, and autopsy.

However, Winda's family suspected that there was something wrong with the victim's death. A number of wounds on the body, the autopsy process, and the funeral procession were judged not to be in line with the family's expectations, so his mother, Yestin Laia, asked questions.

Together with the lawyer, the family then reported the alleged crime of murder to the North Sumatra Police through the SPKT on August 6, 2026.

This case then received the attention of the DPR RI, even the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Habiburokhman, urged the North Sumatra Police and the Medan Police to investigate the case thoroughly. A public hearing (RDPU) between the police and the family will even be held.
