General Sigit Responds to the Surprise Replacement of the National Police Chief: It is the President's Prerogative

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo responded to the issue of a presidential letter (surpres) regarding his replacement from the position of National Police Chief.

Sigit said the decision to replace the leader of the Bhayangkara Corps was the prerogative or privilege of President Prabowo Subianto. He also handed over the decision to replace the President.

"That is the prerogative of the President. So, for us soldiers, anything is implemented. We just wait," he said as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 5.

He also ensured that this suppression issue did not interfere with the performance of the National Police.

"It is not (disrupting performance, ed)," he said.

On Tuesday (4/8), the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman, denied the issue of a suppression regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief, General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

"It is not true that there is a presidential letter about the replacement of the National Police Chief," said Habiburokhman.

The legislator in the field of law enforcement appealed to the public not to be influenced by issues that are not true and do not have a clear basis.

In line with Habiburokhman, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Ahmad Sahroni, also said there was no surprise regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief. He admitted that he did not know the form of the surprise.

"We don't have it, we haven't had it at all," said Sahroni.

Apart from that, Sahroni said General Sigit had a good performance as the National Police Chief for the past five years. Therefore, he assessed that there was no urgency to replace the leadership in the police force.

"He works amazingly, even though there are shortcomings, it's normal. I'm sure the President will keep Pak Sigit because his performance is quite good," said Sahroni.
