Indonesia-Thailand Support Inclusive Dialogue and Humanitarian Access in Myanmar

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul agreed to encourage ASEAN to play a constructive role in resolving the Myanmar crisis.

The agreement was conveyed by Prabowo after meeting Anutin at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, August 3.

Prabowo said Indonesia and Thailand exchanged views on various regional and global developments. One of the topics discussed was Myanmar.

According to Prabowo, both countries reaffirmed the importance of unity and the centrality of ASEAN as the foundation for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

"Regarding Myanmar, we agreed to support ASEAN's efforts to encourage the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus through inclusive dialogue, cessation of violence, and increased humanitarian access," said Prabowo.

The Five-Point Consensus is an ASEAN agreement of five points to help resolve the Myanmar crisis. It includes the cessation of violence and inter-party dialogue.

Prabowo said Indonesia and Thailand would continue to work together so that ASEAN could support sustainable peace in Myanmar.

"Indonesia and Thailand will continue to work together to encourage ASEAN to play a constructive role in supporting the creation of sustainable peace in Myanmar," he said.

Apart from Myanmar, Prabowo and Anutin also discussed developments in the Middle East.

Prabowo said Indonesia and Thailand emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law.

In his statement, Prabowo also said that Indonesia and Thailand have a shared responsibility as founding countries of ASEAN.

The responsibility includes maintaining peace, stability, security, and creating shared prosperity in the region.

Prabowo assessed that global challenges and nontraditional security are increasingly complex. Therefore, Indonesia and Thailand need to participate in maintaining ASEAN's resilience and relevance.

"We have discussed in depth various bilateral, regional, and global issues," said Prabowo.
