JEPARA - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI) through its subsidiary, BRI Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) Development, has been supporting the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) through mentoring programs, capacity building, and market access opening. One of the entrepreneurs who felt the benefits of this support was KAINRATU, a weaving UMKM from Troso Village, Pecangaan District, Jepara Regency, who now markets its products to various regions in Indonesia to foreign countries.
Co-Owner of KAINRATU Maria Leoni said that the business he runs comes from a family environment that has long been engaged in ikat weaving crafts. The experience of helping to market the works of craftsmen then became the first step in the development of KAINRATU.
"The beginning of our business comes from a family background as weavers. Our parents are ikat weavers and we live in Troso Village, Jepara, which is known as an ikat weaving center. This business has been running for about 9 years. At first, we helped market the woven fabric produced by our parents through the website gardutroso.com. As the business developed, in 2019 we officially migrated and developed marketing through the website www.tokotenun.com and www.kainratu.com until it developed as it is today," said Maria.
KAINRATU presents a variety of woven products, ranging from fabrics to ready-to-wear clothing. The products that are most sought after by customers are Double Ikat 3D Woven Fabric and CSM Endek Woven which feature motifs typical of various regions such as Jepara, Kalimantan, Sumba, and East Nusa Tenggara.
Its products have reached export markets in the United States, Japan, Myanmar, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Malaysia, and New Zealand.
In addition to providing custom design services and uniform motifs for companies, government agencies, and educational institutions, KAINRATU also implements the concept of fair pricing and opens an industry visit and weaving training program for the community and students.
In the process of developing the business, Maria got to know the BRI State-Owned House when she often visited the BRI office and saw the existence of the State-Owned House. From the information he obtained, KAINRATU then participated in the selection of BRIncubator participants held by BRI and was selected to participate in the program. "The BRI State-Owned House has provided many benefits for the development of our business through various trainings provided by experienced mentors. The materials and insights provided are very useful in improving business capacity in a practical way," he added.
Training on product development, packaging, and digital marketing through the BRI BUMN House helps KAINRATU strengthen its business and marketing strategies. In addition, KAINRATU was also selected to participate in the BRI UMKM EXPO (RT) after going through the curation process, so that it could obtain wider promotional opportunities.
Until the end of March 2026, BRI has fostered 54 BUMN Houses in various regions of Indonesia and held more than 18 thousand training to increase the capacity and competitiveness of MSMEs.
On a separate occasion, Director of Micro BRI Akhmad Purwakajaya conveyed that the journey of KAINRATU showed how cultural heritage could become a source of sustainable economic opportunities.
According to him, the ability to present products that are still rooted in local culture while being relevant to market needs is an important factor in strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs.
"The journey of KAINRATU shows that local cultural wealth not only has historical value, but also has economic potential that is able to compete in the global market. The ability to combine product quality, innovation, and the use of various development opportunities is an important factor in strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs. BRI will continue to support entrepreneurs MSMEs to develop the potential they have, expand market reach, and create sustainable added value so that they can grow stronger and contribute to the national economy," concluded Akhmad.
